Drew and Jackie Eyre

Their cabin on Mara Lake has long been a treasured part of Drew and Jackie’s life. They bought the lakeside property in the small community of Swansea Point before they were married, building the cabin themselves with the help of family and friends. Drew’s connection to the area stretches back even further – he used to come to Swansea Point for family holidays when he was a child.

The memories they’ve created here with their own children – and now their grandchildren – are deeply cherished. “As far as our family is concerned, we can get rid of whatever we own, but we can never, ever get rid of the cabin,” says Drew. “They’re in love with this place, just like I was as a boy.”

Though their hearts are forever tied to this beautiful spot in the Shuswap, the couple’s curiosity and sense of adventure have taken them far beyond its shores. Their travels have included Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as sailing journeys through the Panama Canal, along the Mediterranean coast and around the Polynesian islands. “Knowledge Network has given us all sorts of ideas about where to go,” says Jackie. “It’s introduced us to so many fascinating countries.”

Among their favourite programs are Treasures with Bettany Hughes and Michael Portillo’s travel adventures. On weekends, though, British dramas take centre stage. “Whatever we’re doing, we have to stop to watch and them. It’s become a tradition for us,” says Drew.

Like many Knowledge Partners, their love of the programming inspired them to become regular donors. “Knowledge has provided us with so much enrichment and fulfillment,” says Jackie. “It’s taught us many things we weren’t aware of, and we’re excited to see what it brings us in the future.”
